Framed by WDET: Places Where We Belong

By July 12, 2019 No Comments

For the first time ever, 1001 Woodward Ave. in Downtown Detroit is home to a collection of work from local storytellers and photographers. Framed by WDET: Places Where We Belong is an immersive audio-visual exhibition that celebrates the rich legacy of Detroit.

The work features 10 communities and highlights the narratives from numerous people from neighborhoods right down the street, such as Delray, Hamtramck, Southwest Detroit and more. One story captures moments where local dancing and music is the foundation for a sense of belonging. Another story shares how boxing at a downtown Detroit boxing gym teaches kids life lessons inside and outside of the classroom and boxing ring.

During Detroit’s Art week, beginning July 17, 1001 Woodward will also be home to an Artist Talk which will host several artists who express the importance and process of producing visual art for local communities. Over the last 4 years, Framed by WDET has been creating and sharing stories and for the first time the entire collection is showcased in one space celebrating our global city. The exhibit is free to the public and is open Thursday – Sunday, 12 pm – 7 pm until July 21. For more information, visit http://framedbywdet.org.
